This week’s spotlight points to Gappy Ranks, one of reggae’s up and coming artists hailing from the UK. His given name at birth was Jacob Lee Williams and he grew up in Harlesden, England.
His mother was Dominican and his father was Jamaican and because of the gap bwtween his front teeth he was nicknamed “Gappy”. The name stuck until he later used “Daddy Gappy” for a while, and later changing it to Gappy Ranks.
I first learned about Gappy Ranks when I listened to his album “Turn The Stereo On”. I was impressed with his sound and when the second album “Thanks & Praise” released I played songs from both releases quite often on The Iyah Music Show.
His most recent album titled “Gappy Ranks and Friends” is one that I enjoy
very much. It’s got quite a few songs on it that hit home with crucial vibes.
